The Framework for Marine and Estuarine Water Quality Protection provides a reference for water managers and jurisdictional authorities.

Strategies contained in the framework document may be used to develop a consistent approach to protect coastal waters by:

  • managing the adverse effects of land-based activities on water quality
  • reducing land-based pollution.

This framework guided the development of water quality improvem​ent plans (WQIP) for key coastal waterways (hotspots) threatened by pollution.
