Design and requirements for a new guideline

Publication details

Australian Government, 2018

New guideline documents can be developed and included under the National Water Quality Management Strategy (NWQMS), to provide advice about water quality management not covered by existing guidelines. Make sure you have checked that no current guidelines exist for your proposed topic.

Benefits of sharing your new guideline document under the NWQMS include:

  • promoting a consistent, national approach to the management of significant water quality issues
  • reducing duplication and inconsistencies, particularly when it comes to cross-border water resources
  • providing the best available information and tools for use across Australia.

The Design and Requirements for a New Guideline is available to help proponents (such as a committee group, government body or organisation) meet requirements for a new guideline under the NWQMS.

This includes information on key principles to be met, specific requirements and approval processes for proposed guidelines.
