The purpose of this guidance is to provide current good practice laboratory analytical methods for acid sulfate soil samples to both:
- conclusively identify the presence or absence of acid sulfate soils, and
- quantitatively assess associated hazards.
This guidance is designed to help identify acid sulfate soils and to quantify some of the hazards they pose. Using these methods for other soil materials may result in the false identification of acidity hazards.
It is essential that the reader consult relevant jurisdictional guidance and regulations and contact the relevant state or territory government department for specific local and regional information and advice.
