Primary industries – livestock drinking water guidelines (draft)

Publication details (Draft for public comment)

Australian and New Zealand Governments, and Australian state and territory governments, 2023

Provides guidance and default guideline values applicable to both groundwater and surface water quality provided for livestock drinking water commonly found in Australia and New Zealand (sheep, cattle, horses, pigs and poultry). Includes biological, chemical and radiological characteristics that may affect animal health, and technical and background information to support the guidance.

These guidelines are a revision of the guidance contained in the ANZECC & ARMCANZ (2000) guidance for livestock drinking water, which should be referred to until the updated guidance has been published. Future revisions of these guidelines will include guidance on emerging contaminants such as endocrine-disrupting chemicals, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and pharmaceuticals and personal care products.

Please subscribe for updates to be informed of final publication of the revised guidelines.
