Previous guidelines for water quality
The first water quality guidance for Australia, A Compilation of Australian Water Quality Criteria, was developed by Hart (1974) under the direction of the Australian Water Resources Council.
Guidance for Australia was developed by the Australia and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council (ANZECC) and released in 1992.
Both these guidelines were then revised by ANZECC in conjunction with the Agriculture and Resources Management Council of Australia and New Zealand (ARMCANZ) and released in 2000 as the first joint guidance for Australia and New Zealand.
Both these guidelines have been superseded by the revised Water Quality Guidelines, released in 2018 as an online resource.
